President-Elect Donald Trump rings opening bell at NYSE

President-elect Trump rang the bell at the New York Stock Exchange shortly after being named Time magazine’s person of the year.

United States President-elect Donald Trump rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, 12 December.

The mood was celebratory as he was cheered on by the country’s business elite, including David Solomon, CEO of Goldman Sachs, and Brian Cornell, CEO of Target. The cheers and applause gave way to chants of “USA! USA!”

Trump’s appearance came shortly after Time magazine named the President-elect its person of the year for the second time.

“Time magazine, getting this honor for the second time, I think I like it better this time actually,” the President-elect said.

The United States is currently experiencing growth of 2.8%, with unemployment near 4.2%. However, analysts warn that this may be hard to sustain into the new year as job creation is slowing.

Donald Trump will take office at the presidential inauguration on Monday, 20 January 2025.
