International biotech firm Amgen makes significant investment in Dublin plant

International biotech firm Amgen has announced a $100m (€88.5m) investment at its manufacturing plant in Dun Laoghaire.

This investment is expected to create 150 new construction jobs in the area.

This marks the company’s largest construction project outside North America, which is expected to be finished by 2024. 

IDA Ireland said in a statement that the firm aims to build a new vial filling line with ‘state of the art’ technology and site infrastructure.

“Amgen is one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies, and this investment underscores Ireland’s position as a leading global location for the sector,” said the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Leo Varadkar.

Amgen has been based in Dun Laoghaire for over 10 years. The company specialises in filling and packaging drugs and on-site analytical testing. 

Paul Greene, Amgen’s vice-president for regional manufacturing, stated the decision will “enable us to serve more patients here in Ireland and all over the world”.

He continued: “This investment is a testament to our commitment to our local community and our highly skilled workforce.”
